Attire & Clothing:
Classes may warm up the body & work up a sweat. We recommend wearing clothes that you will feel comfortable in & have full range of movement in. Typical form fitting workout clothes tend to help assist Asana posses. We ask, regardless of the clothing style you rock, attempt to keep all private areas & genitals of the body covered during Online & In-person classes.

Yoga Means: To Yoke or Union
Yoga Classes originated from Eastern Spiritual Practices and involve: Breathwork, holding various poses with your physical body, matching movement with breath, allowing time for rest/ relaxation, meditation / focusing the mind and structured philosophies. As these practices were brought to the west the interpretation and use of yoga has evolved and adapted to many modern adaptations. The primary difference between the Historic Eastern Interpretations and Modern Western Adaptations are: Activity vs. Lifestyle. Based off factual history, Yoga is more then an exercise performed in a 30min- 90min. class. Yoga is a walk of life and daily lesson. Asana (the yoga poses) specifically exist in order to help you bring attention to the mind-body-spirit connection. Deepening the mind body connection prepares you for a deeper meditation and helps you reach a higher state of being. Connection, Union or Yoking is the core goal when it comes to a yoga practice. Yoga focuses on how to further integrate the mind, body & being. Mindfulness is often a main theme of classes, with sessions often beginning and ending with: guided, silent or moving meditation. Postures that are held for longer allow time for self-reflection. Where as faster paced movements allow time to release physical energy. Yoga philosophy and practices of the "yogi" reach far past physical body positions and influences every aspect of an individual’s lifestyle, from how to go about the day, the food to eat, and the way to treat others.
Yoga is a way to align with the source and higher self, thus “making time to practice”; it’s a continuous flow, from sunrise to sunset. Not every person who practices Yoga or Asana lives the Life Style of a Yogi. Yoga is also a wonderful practice to gain and maintain fitness goals, strength and flexibility. The more modern western adaptations of Yoga highlights these benefits of a yoga practice. Some may use yoga as a form of fitness or for other reasons outside of the historic and traditional reasons of practicing yoga. Listen to yourself, and dive into the areas of practice that most interest you and keep an open mind! There is no right or wrong way to yoga....Listen to your body, mind and spirit, all the answers to reaching your fullest potential are with in....we are merely a guide!

(A Small Break Down Of The History & Sacred Texts Associated With Yoga)
-Bringing it all the way back to the Vedas.
One of the most ancient sacred texts of India and the central text of Hindu Scriptures. With in these writings or collection of Hymns the foundations of Yoga are established. We see here mention of Yoga, which means, to "yuj" (control) and "yoke" (unite) oneself, are established. Many of the mantras in these texts are regularly practiced today. This is why in some instances you may hear a chant, mantra, or song in a yoga class.
These ancient studies focus on purification of self and the mind.
- Around 600 B.C. we see The Epic Mahabarata of which holds the Bhagavad Gita. With in these Epics we begin to outline different types of yoga. Stating that yoga is complete balance. Balance of oneself from body to mind.
Balance of thoughts & emotions.
Balance of discipline/abstinence & indulgence/impulsion.
Finding the balance of all in order to not reach extremes but to find your center. As the sooner you find your center the longer you can resonate there.
-Around 200 C.E. We see the Yoga Sutras arise, which is another core text of yoga and is one of the main foundational texts of Yogi’s. This philosophy writing has 196 verses (sutras)
mainly focusing on uniting/ finding understanding
with oneself, the highest consciousness and nature.
In these texts there are very few verses regarding Asana proving yoga is much more then just doing exercise and poses.
These sutras are created by Patanjali and include with in them the 8 limbs of yoga which is the primary basis of yoga practice
.
-Around 800-900 C.E. Yoga has continued to adapt and progress over the years. Many different Yoga Schools came to be. Leading to many of our more common class practice styles. During this time we begin to see practices such as Tantrism and Siddha Yogi's entering the scene. We also begin to see the rise and prominence of Hatha yoga + many other yoga practices/schools!
As yoga moved "westwards" a lot of yoga classes started to begin to switch more focuses on to the 3rd limb of yoga - asana practice or exercising the body/mind.
In our studio we like to dive deep into these other aspects of yoga and these foundational components.
We barely scrapped the surface of yoga history here, so make sure to check out our "Yoga Philosophy" Series as we go into much more depth on many more areas of yoga history, philosophy and ancient texts.

(Information On Meditation & How We Strive To Make It Inclusive)
The main purpose of asana and movement exploration is to be able to find rest. Sitting, laying, resting and meditating are important aspects to a yoga practice. However these areas of practice can bring up many emotions, and may be very triggering. We will always provide a trigger warning prior to any meditation class with in our studio. This is a way for us to help make classes more inclusive for all. Meditation is not only "clearing the mind." It is training the mind, rewiring pathways in the brain to find calmness in chaos. We always accept the thoughts that enter our heads but we learn to release these thoughts of power as we try to calm the mind or focus on one specific thought or thing. Both guided and self guided meditations are wonderful ways to get in touch with your deep subconscious and reconnect to your internal self. Just like yoga, meditation is a practice. It can be uncomfortable, some days may go better then others, some days you might find yourself "getting in the zone" and other days it is impossible to silence the mind. All is ok, all is accepted, we encourage you to show yourself deep understanding, kindness and love during these sessions, release yourself of expectations and frustrations and be in the moment whatever that may bring. Being able to find stillness...stillness in the body and stillness of the mind can be one of the hardest journeys for some, but we are here to assist you in anyways possible and provide you a safe space to feel, react and do as you need to during your meditation times. All meditative aspects of class and directed positioning for meditation is always optional. Some may find that keeping the eyes open, a blanket or pillow near by or staying seated may assist your experience. Our goal is to allow you to be as comfortable as possible and you are always in charge of your practice. You may choose to not participate in any part of class at any time, we are merely guides, you control your practice. We will never judge you based on how you decide to practice your meditation. And we ask that the students share this open mindedness as well in any of our classes, respect is key to keep the good vibes rolling in class and allowing each moment of class to be raw and authentic.
Meditation & Yoga + Spirituality & Religion
Yoga has been an aspect of spiritual practices and a form of energetic practice for over 5,000 years. Although yoga arguably is not a religion itself, there are inherent spiritual foundations to yoga. Understanding these foundations are important, although it is always OK to listen to yourself and choose to utilize the aspects from yoga that best serve you, your path and your intentions. Yoga can be practiced by people of any back ground, religion/ beliefs systems, as the end goal of yoga is to learn self awareness in order to transform oneself, to experience self actualization in a way to better ones self and society as a whole ultimately reaching a higher consciousness which can be done no matter what you believe religiously. Through yoga we use mindfulness, breath, movement and stillness to help us find these discoveries of self. Yoga is much more then simply Asana & Poses. There are 8 Limbs to Yoga and Asana/Movement/Poses is only one Limb of Yoga. Yoga incorporates a fusion of many things such as: Ethics, Psychology/Philosophy, Self-Discipline, Breathe Work, Energy Flow Work Through Movement, Concentration, Mindfulness, Self Knowledge/ Awareness, and More. Yoga is a journey and a process, there are ups and downs, mistakes and accomplishments, it is mostly important we respect each step in our journey and allow ourselves kindness and love during our yogic journey.
For some people their current journey and needs may be to only use Yoga for the purpose of exercise and the physical benefits and that is accepted here. As yoga does have many possible physical benefits you may be able to experience from your practice. If you are apprehensive on the more spiritual effects of yoga or you simply are not interested in these other aspects yoga has to offer you, our "Get Kinetic" and "Kinetic Flow" Classes will be a wonderful Class option for you.
In our studio we like to believe Yoga is for everyone & anyone can benefit from yoga! Everyone has their own individual perspectives, interpretations & personal journeys; thus, we always strive to make our classes as inclusive as possible for all while staying in line with the historic roots & teachings of yoga.
Class Types:
Alyssa enjoys teaching a wide range of classes. Finding variety important, she tries to provide students a well rounded practice. From fast-paced & high energy classes to slow paced & more detailed classes, regardless of the class style, she invites students to understand the motivation & "WHY" behind the practice instead of simply the "HOW". Alyssa is very well versed in flexibility & strength training! She finds joy in challenging herself both physically & mentally, she hopes to provide opportunities in class for students to challenge themselves as well. She believes in encouraging authenticity & acceptance of self in classes. She focuses on the potential psychological benefits of yoga. Alyssa believes in using the body as a way to get in touch with the subconscious & find self-reflection. Alyssa strives to find more approaches to making Yoga & Meditation potentially less triggering & more inclusive, so all may be able to receive the possible mental health benefits of Yoga.
Protocol & Class Policies:
Kinetic Connection both follows and enforces protocol to keep you safe. Please, adhere to the following rules as a way to show your support to both the studio and your fellow yogi's / dancers.
